The cool side of the pillow, for longer

Everyone knows the move. Flip it over, find the cool side, and get maybe twenty minutes before your own body heat catches up and you're doing it again.

Cotton is a big part of why. It holds warmth against your face and soaks up moisture without moving it anywhere. By 2am you're lying on the warm, slightly damp patch you made yourself.

Bamboo viscose does the opposite. It pulls moisture off your skin and lets it evaporate, so heat has somewhere to go instead of pooling under your head. The flip stops being necessary because there's no warm side to escape.

156 GSM, and why that number matters

GSM is grams per square metre — how much fabric is actually in the fabric. Most bamboo pillowcases sit around 110 to 130. This one is 156.

You notice it two ways. It drapes instead of clinging, so it sits flat on the pillow rather than riding up. And it survives washing. Thin viscose goes limp and pills after a few cycles; there's enough fabric here that it comes out of the machine the same as it went in. Most sellers in this category don't publish a GSM figure at all, which tells you something about where theirs land.

What it's made of

Fabric
100% viscose derived from bamboo. No polyester blended in to cut costs — which is worth saying plainly, because most things marketed as bamboo bedding are more than half polyester.
Weave
Sateen. More threads sit on the surface than in a plain weave, which is where the smooth, cool, faintly silky feel comes from. It's a structure, not a finish, so it doesn't wash out.

156 GSM.
Closure
Hidden SBS zipper along one edge. SBS make zippers the way YKK do — it's a named component rather than whatever was cheapest. The pillow stays in, and there's no flap working its way loose at 3am.

Why a zip instead of an envelope

Almost every pillowcase in this category uses an envelope closure — a flap of fabric folded over the open end. It's cheaper to sew, and it works until you move. Then the pillow creeps out, the flap bunches under your ear, and you spend the night shoving it back in. A zip closes the case. That's the whole argument.

How to not ruin it

Viscose is a plant fibre and it behaves like one. Treat it like a good shirt rather than a towel and it'll outlast anything cotton you own.

Zip it shut before washing. An open zip catches on everything in the drum, including itself.
Cold water, delicate cycle. Heat is what breaks viscose down. Liquid detergent, no powder.
Line dry, or tumble on low. A hot dryer will shrink it and dull the sheen.
No bleach, no fabric softener. Bleach eats the fibre. Softener leaves a film that undoes the thing you bought it for.

What's actually inside

A bamboo viscose cover over 400g of high-density memory foam, with cooling gel infused through it. The foam contours to your shoulders, hips and lower back. The bamboo surface moves heat and moisture away instead of holding it against you.

The foam carries CertiPUR-US certification, meaning an independent lab has tested it and confirmed what isn't in it.

Where your money actually goes

Most bamboo toppers are a fibre-filled pad with a bamboo-blend cover. The BambooLux™ - Natural Comfort Topper uses a certified memory foam core with cooling gel run through it, which costs more to make and is the reason it doesn't sit at the bottom of the price range.

Why we made this

You spend about a third of your life on a mattress, and most of us are sleeping on whatever came with the bed frame. Replacing a mattress is expensive. A topper is the cheaper fix, but the category is full of thin synthetic pads that flatten inside a year.

Does it sleep hot like regular memory foam?

That's the problem the bamboo viscose cover and the cooling gel are there to solve. Standard memory foam traps heat because it's dense and closed off. Here the foam is paired with a breathable surface and a gel layer that moves heat away from your body.

Is the foam safe?

It's CertiPUR-US certified, which means an independent lab has tested it and verified it's free from ozone depleters, PBDE flame retardants, mercury and other heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates regulated by the CPSC.

How long until it's fully expanded?

It ships vacuum-compressed. Lay it flat on your mattress and most of the loft returns within 24 to 48 hours. A 15 to 20 minute tumble dry on low heat speeds that up considerably.

Can I wash it?

The bamboo viscose cover is machine washable in cold water. Follow the care label on your unit for the specifics.

Will it fit my mattress?

The elasticized skirt stretches to fit standard mattress depths.
